Artist Statement

I'm an artist and ceramicist rooted in the vibrant landscapes of Cardiff, Wales, yet deeply influenced by the rugged beauty of my upbringing in North Wales. Graduating from Wimbledon College of Art (UAL) in 2017, my journey has continuously evolved, leading me to a profound discovery in pottery, sparked during my time in Cardiff.

My work is a homage to Welsh wildlife and the enchanting tapestry of the natural world. I find inspiration in the intricate forms of local wild bird and animal species, plant life and the mysterious allure of fungi.

Blending traditional techniques with contemporary methods, my creations encapsulate a distinctive character. Utilising underglaze scraffito and a medley of glaze combinations, I make pieces that exude both vibrancy and depth. My ceramics, often serving as functional kitchenware, tells a story, each one bearing traces of my memories and experiences of the wilderness of north Wales.

In my exploration of glaze combinations, different clays and marks, I seek to evoke the rustic charm of my homeland. Rich indigos and rusting blues, reminiscent of North Wales' turquoise quarries, seas and rivers, infuse my work with a sense of nostalgia and wonder.

Embedded within many pieces are hidden (third) eyes, inviting viewers to delve deeper into the layers of symbolism and meaning related to harmony within the natural world, inviting others to join me on a journey of discovery and contemplation.
